Educational Standards for Economic Education at All Types of General-education Schools in Germany

Two Peculiarities of Economic Education
In order to model economic competences and to draw the didactic-methodological consequences it is necessary to take into account specific conditions of the conceptual development concerning economic issues and the respective learning paths. In this respect economic education has to deal with two fundamental peculiarities. First, the concept of the market as system unintendedly coordinating a multitude of actions is not transparent in the individual action. Thus, the learning paths to this concept of market cannot just build on the concept of the market as the concrete place of economic interactions. Second, the marketâs systemic coordination of feedback processes, particularly the negative ones, is rather unintuitive. Intuition prefers unidirectional linear causal relations. These two interrelated peculiarities are present in the cognitive development of economic concepts. Competence requirements have to be defined respectively and methodological choices in teaching systemic âphenomenaâ have to reflect this constraint

Late glacial 14C ages from a floating, 1382-ring pine chronology

This article is posted here by permission of Dept. of Geosciences, University of Arizona for personal use, not for redistribution. The definitive version was published in Radiocarbon 46 (2004): 1203-1209.We built a floating, 1382-ring pine chronology covering the radiocarbon age interval of 12,000 to 10,650 BP.
Based on the strong rise of Î14C at the onset of the Younger Dryas (YD) and wiggle-matching of the decadal-scale Î14C fluctuations,
we can anchor the floating chronology to the Cariaco varve chronology. We observe a marine reservoir correction
higher than hitherto assumed for the Cariaco site, of up to 650 yr instead of 400 yr, for the full length of the comparison interval.
The tree-ring Î14C shows several strong fluctuations of short duration (a few decades) at 13,800; 13,600; and 13,350 cal
BP. The amplitude of the strong Î14C rise at the onset of the YD is about 40â°, whereas in the marine data set the signal
appears stronger due to a re-adjustment of the marine mixed-layer Î14C towards the atmospheric level.B K and M F received funding for this work from the German Ministry of Education and Research

VeralltÀglichung und Degendering von E-Learning: Ergebnisse des Forschungsprojekts "Das aufwÀndige Geschlecht"
"Der Bericht beschreibt die wichtigsten Ergebnisse
des von der DFG geförderten Forschungsprojekts
âDas aufwĂ€ndige Geschlechtâ.
Ausgehend von der Theorie ĂŒber
die Ko-Konstruktion von Technik & Geschlecht
wurden im Rahmen des Projekts die
Möglichkeiten untersucht, durch die Nutzung
von E-Learning an Hochschulen das Geschlecht
zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Einige Ergebnisse
deuten darauf hin, dass E-Learning
in seiner tÀglichen Nutzung von den Studierenden
nicht mehr als Technologie angesehen
wird und diese Technologie folglich in
ihrer AlltÀglichkeit nicht mehr dazu genutzt
wird, das Geschlecht zu performieren. DarĂŒber
hinaus zeigt sich, dass durch E-Learning
die Möglichkeit unterstĂŒtzt wird, das âStudium
zu konsumierenâ. Lernunterlagen werden
immer mehr und sollen beispielsweise immer
mehr ĂŒber die unterschiedlichsten Lehrplattformen
digital zur VerfĂŒgung gestellt werden.
Dies laut den Studierenden einerseits so
umfassend wie nötig, aber auch so konzentriert
wie möglich, sodass fĂŒr die Studierenden
selber keine weitere Recherche- und Lesearbeiten
mehr notwendig werden." (Autorenreferat)"The report describes key results of the research
project âDas aufwĂ€ndige Geschlechtâ
(âThe Arduous Genderâ), which was funded
by the DFG (German Research Foundation).
Based on the theory of the co-construction
of gender and technology the project analysed
whether it is possible to perform oneâs
gender by using e-learning in higher education.
The results of the project show that students
no longer regard e-learning in everyday
use as technology. Thus, students do not use
this technology in their daily routine to perform
their gender. Furthermore, the results
show that e-learning supports the attitude
that we call âstudying as consumptionâ. More
and more learning materials are being digitised
and students prefer to get all these materials
via e-learning services, without having
to put any effort into fi nding other scientifi c
materials themselves and reading other (not
digitised) materials." (author's abstract
Embracing Trustworthiness and Authenticity in the Validation of Learning Analytics Systems
Learning analytics sits in the middle space between learning theory and data analytics. The inherent diversity of learning analytics manifests itself in an epistemology that strikes a balance between positivism and interpretivism, and knowledge that is sourced from theory and practice. In this paper, we argue that validation approaches for learning analytics systems should be cognisant of these diverse foundations. Through a systematic review of learning analytics validation research, we find that there is currently an over-reliance on positivistic validity criteria. Researchers tend to ignore interpretivistic criteria such as trustworthiness and authenticity. In the 38 papers we analysed, researchers covered positivistic validity criteria 221 times, whereas interpretivistic criteria were mentioned 37 times. We motivate that learning analytics can only move forward with holistic validation strategies that incorporate âthick descriptionsâ of educational experiences. We conclude by outlining a planned validation study using argument-based validation, which we believe will yield meaningful insights by considering a diverse spectrum of validity criteria
NotCal04; comparison/ calibration 14C records 26-50 cal kyr BP

The definitive version was published in Radiocarbon 46 (2004): 1225-1238.The radiocarbon calibration curve IntCal04 extends back to 26 cal kyr BP. While several high-resolution
records exist beyond this limit, these data sets exhibit discrepancies of up to several millennia. As a result, no calibration curve
for the time range 26â50 cal kyr BP can be recommended as yet, but in this paper the IntCal04 working group compares the
available data sets and offers a discussion of the information that they hold
